Georges Edeline has over 40 years experience as a soccer player, coach and administrator. He was captain and MVP of the George Washington University team and, following graduation, coached the team for ten years. Georges is a member of the GWU Hall of Fame. He has an MA in Education and has conducted soccer programs in the Atlanta area for the last 25 years. Shown here with wife Charlene.

Education

  • B.A. Business, Government and Public Administration, George Washington University, Washington D.C.
  • M.A. Education, George Washington University, Washington D.C. Area of concentration: Tourism and Travel Administration. Thesis: Hosting International Sports Groups.

Coaching

USSF "A" licensed since 1980. 1988 Inductee of GWU Sports Hall of Fame. Over 30 years of coaching and teaching, male and female of all age and talent levels, from toddlers to adults. Taught several other sports, as a Teaching Assistant in graduate school.

Former coach, George Washington University Men's program for ten years, starting immediately after graduation; made the post-season NCAA-DIV-I national playoffs three times in five years, including second year as a head coach; only team on record to defeat both Division I and II NCAA national champions, in same year (1977); nationally-ranked. Highly motivated all, as students and athletes. Still in contact with dozens of former players, and their families.

Former coach, Georgia Perimeter College (Atlanta), women's program, 2001-2005; gaining respect for a previously neglected program; not only graduating more student/athletes, but also preparing them to continue studying/playing at four-year institutions; and for the real world.

Camp and Community Work

Currently, volunteer director of soccer management for Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA), nearly two decades. Trainer/coach for boys' and girls' teams, and individuals, from various metro Atlanta clubs. Director of Hall of Fame School of Soccer, planning, organizing and directing clinics and camps for boys and girls, ages 18 months to 18 years old.

Former Director of Camp Operations, NASL Pro Soccer Washington Diplomats (DC); built program to great popularity. Dealt with well-known professional players, i.e. Johan Cruyif, Gus Hiddink, among others; scheduling and motivating them to interact with the youth of the community at appearances, clinics and camps.

Active in community, via appearances, including free clinics and camps for boys and girls, along with lectures regarding personal background as a survivor, escaping the political purges of third-world country with two younger siblings.

Administration

Founder, President, Coach/Player, Capital (DC) Soccer League, a selective open (amateurs and professionals) soccer league with teams made up of current and former college student/athletes; current and former professional players, including the Washington Diplomats Reserve players; and international players.

Instituted new rules and guidelines, to keep the league under control, with strict preventive measures to keep players focused on playing, minimizing unsportsman-like behavior and violence. Became most attractive, safest league in town, attracting the entire family.

President, DC/VA/MD Soccer Association, governing body for amateur soccer in the Washington DC metro area.

Playing Experience

Played daily at school and in neighborhood before joining organized club. Varsity high school (Baltimore, Maryland); and college (GWU/DC); was Captain and MVP at both institutions.

Continued with senior amateur and pro teams, Washington Cavaliers (ASL/DC), after college graduation. Most recently, Summer 2004, Member of the Atlanta Select, in the Veterans Cup International Soccer Tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Miscellaneous

Fluent in French.

Intensive background in hospitality and travel industry, having worked as Guest Services Manager/Director of Concierge Services, dealing with guests from all over the world.

Founder/President of Concierge Society of Atlanta, November 1984; the organization is still going strong as a very respected professional association.

Taught hospitality and travel administration at Georgia State University and Atlanta Intercontinental University. Substitute teaching at K-12 levels.

Planned, organized, raised funds, and conducted international sports exchanges since 1970s; hosting and leading international tour groups. Also, direct youth and adult tournaments, indoor and outdoor, including a GWU Christmas tournament for as many as 92 teams from several states.
